Cytoskeleton: Cirque du Septins
نویسنده
چکیده
Septins and F-actin are familiar cohabitants of the cleavage furrow yet how they might be functionally connected has been ambiguous. New work shows that septins can promote the assembly of curved bundles of F-actin, providing an unexpected molecular function for septins in cytokinesis.

Information Technology at Cirque du Soleil: Looking Back, Moving Forward
What do information technologies (IT) have to do with running an artistic organization such as Cirque du Soleil? It turns out that they are critical to the success of the organization. The case is situated in 2008 when Cirque had developed an IT infrastructure supporting the entire process value chain from show creation to production and design, casting, and logistics needed for running its 17 ...
متن کاملThe septin cytoskeleton facilitates membrane retraction during motility and blebbing
Increasing evidence supports a critical role for the septin cytoskeleton at the plasma membrane during physiological processes including motility, formation of dendritic spines or cilia, and phagocytosis. We sought to determine how septins regulate the plasma membrane, focusing on this cytoskeletal element's role during effective amoeboid motility. Surprisingly, septins play a reactive rather t...
متن کاملHere come the septins: novel polymers that coordinate intracellular functions and organization.
Septins are conserved GTP-binding proteins that associate with cellular membranes and the actin and microtubule cytoskeletons. They polymerize to form filamentous structures that act as diffusion barriers between different membrane domains and as molecular scaffolds for membrane- and cytoskeleton-binding proteins. In yeast, septins are central to the spatio-temporal coordination of membrane pol...
متن کاملEndosomal assembly and transport of heteromeric septin complexes promote septin cytoskeleton formation.
Septins are conserved cytoskeletal structures functioning in a variety of biological processes including cytokinesis and cell polarity. A wealth of information exists on the heterooligomeric architecture of septins and their subcellular localization at distinct sites. However, the precise mechanisms of their subcellular assembly and their intracellular transport are unknown. Here, we demonstrat...
متن کاملA role for septins in the interaction between the Listeria monocytogenes INVASION PROTEIN InlB and the Met receptor.
Septins are conserved GTPases that form filaments and are required for cell division. During interphase, septin filaments associate with cellular membrane and cytoskeleton networks, yet the functional significance of these associations have, to our knowledge, remained unknown. We recently discovered that different septins, SEPT2 and SEPT11, regulate the InlB-mediated entry of Listeria monocytog...
